Níel M. Jurist is a native of Columbus, Ohio. In 2005, she founded Jurist Public Relations & Consulting, LLC (JPRC), a family-owned boutique PR agency specializing in branding, event planning and media relations. The company is a spin off of Jurist Graphics previously owned and operated in the 1980’s by her father, William F. Jurist. JPRC was formed to continue the Jurist brand. Currently, JPRC serves clients in Ohio, Philadelphia and New York, with plans to expand globally.

Previously Niel served as the Media Relations Manager for the Ohio Treasury. In her role at the Ohio Treasury, she was instrumental in creating the first nationwide Media Complete Count Committee for the 2010 Census. As Chair, Níel convened communications professionals across the state of Ohio to focus on strategies to assist the Ohio Complete Count Committee to increase visibility and mail back response rates for the census. Additionally, Níel launched the Ohio Treasury’s first energy efficient linked deposit program and helped increase public awareness of the Treasury’s award winning, Smart Money Choices conference series and various programs and initiatives.

Prior to her role at the Treasury, Níel served as the Communications Director for the Ohio Senate Democratic Caucus (SDC). In this role, Niel worked to advance the brand of the Caucus through cultivating relationships with local and national media and assisted members in providing constituents with legislative updates through the creation of the first Caucus e-newsletter.

Before coming to the Ohio Senate, Niel served as the Assistant Director of Diversity and Inclusion at the United Way of Central Ohio (UWCO). In this role, she worked with member agencies to ensure they provided culturally competent services to their internal/external clients. Additionally, she managed the leadership diversity programs and launched the 2007 Racial Disparities Report. This report was the first of its kind in the nation to examine racial disparities across social indicators.

Ms. Jurist received her Bachelors of Arts degree in Criminology from The Ohio State University and her MBA from Ashland University with a concentration in Finance.

She has been an active member of the Columbus Chapter of the NBMBAA for a number of years and previously held the position of Community Outreach and Networking Chair. Niel is very active in the greater Columbus community. Currently, she serves as the Publicity co-chair for Columbus (OH) Alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Additionally, Niel serves on the advisory council for the Columbus Association of the Performing Arts (CAPA), a member of PRSA of Central Ohio and an active member of Greater Jordon Temple.
