meet the founder

Níel M. Jurist is a
native of Columbus, Ohio. In 2005, she founded
Jurist Public Relations & Consulting, LLC (JPRC), a
family-owned boutique PR agency specializing in
branding, event planning and media relations. The
company is a spin off of Jurist Graphics previously
owned and operated in the 1980’s by her father,
William F. Jurist. JPRC was formed to continue the
Jurist brand. Currently, JPRC serves clients in
Ohio, Philadelphia and New York, with plans to
expand globally.
Previously Niel served as the Media Relations
Manager for the Ohio Treasury. In her role at the
Ohio Treasury, she was instrumental in creating the
first nationwide Media Complete Count Committee for
the 2010 Census. As Chair, Níel convened
communications professionals across the state of
Ohio to focus on strategies to assist the Ohio
Complete Count Committee to increase visibility and
mail back response rates for the census.
Additionally, Níel launched the Ohio Treasury’s
first energy efficient linked deposit program and
helped increase public awareness of the Treasury’s
award winning, Smart Money Choices conference series
and various programs and initiatives.
Prior to her role at the Treasury, Níel served as
the Communications Director for the Ohio Senate
Democratic Caucus (SDC). In this role, Niel worked
to advance the brand of the Caucus through
cultivating relationships with local and national
media and assisted members in providing constituents
with legislative updates through the creation of the
first Caucus e-newsletter.
Before coming to the Ohio Senate, Niel served as the
Assistant Director of Diversity and Inclusion at the
United Way of Central Ohio (UWCO). In this role, she
worked with member agencies to ensure they provided
culturally competent services to their
internal/external clients. Additionally, she managed
the leadership diversity programs and launched the
2007 Racial Disparities Report. This report was the
first of its kind in the nation to examine racial
disparities across social indicators.
Ms. Jurist received her Bachelors of Arts degree in
Criminology from The Ohio State University and her
MBA from Ashland University with a concentration in
Finance.
She has been an active member of the Columbus
Chapter of the NBMBAA for a number of years and
previously held the position of Community Outreach
and Networking Chair. Niel is very active in the
greater Columbus community. Currently, she serves as
the Publicity co-chair for Columbus (OH) Alumnae
chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Additionally, Niel serves on the advisory council
for the Columbus Association of the Performing Arts
(CAPA), a member of PRSA of Central Ohio and an
active member of Greater Jordon Temple. At church,
she is actively involved in the Special Events
Committee, Usher Board, Nurses Auxiliary and mentors
young ladies in high school and college.
In her spare time, Níel enjoys traveling, reading
and indulging in new experiences. |
